When preparing an upcoming article about the Fender Humbucking Pickup (the one with the six adjustable CiNiFe-magnets positioned in two rows of three), we had a discussion about the “Q-factor”. It turned out that things were far more complicated than most textbook definitions of the Q-factor imply.
Since (in combination with the resonance frequency) the Q-factor can be considered the most important ingredient into the sound of a pickup, we decided that we should write up some info on the topic. This time we not only supply various approaches based on the corresponding theory, but also some very practical hints as to how to asses sound qualities of a pickup. Check out the article here!
